Come nurture your creative self!

The New Coastal Retreats and Workshops is a creative experience that is inspired by our love of all that is coastal, taught by a hand-picked group of professionals and talented instructors. Our diverse line up of workshops  are unique hands-on classes taught seaside at in Wrightsville Beach in her gently and lovingly preserved glory.

All of our workshops are meant to inspire you whether you choose the total immersion package where you spend the night or of you choose the ala carte option of a class or two.

It's more than a learning process - it's about hands-on activities and inspirational experiences in beautiful seaside surroundings where you'll do more than learn, you'll make lasting friendships and create memories with your newfound artistic tribe all while enjoying loads of great food and drinks.

We look forward to seeing you at The New Coastal Retreats and Workshops where art is created while friendships are made by the sea.

Anne Kirchner, Graphics & Design

Born in the heartland of the Virginia mountains, Anne was raised by an artist and an architect, so her world was full of creativity from the get go. She went on to study Industrial Design at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. After graduating, she moved to San Francisco, to explore the west coast and work in the event industry.
She designed the graphics for each event and added to her work talents floral design, while working alongside many freelance designers.
After a couple years, she decided to move back to the east coast with her husband, Chadwick. Anne now works as an assistant creative director at N2 Publishing.
In her free time, she enjoys photography, wheel thrown pottery, pen and ink drawing and exploring with her dog, Chef. She is also a big time beachcomber and enjoys finding beauty in nature.

Joanna Frye

Joanna was born and raised in Kernersville, North Carolina.  She earned a B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University 2002.Over the next several years Joanna made her way west, eventually landing in California.  There she taught art and continued painting, while beginning work in mixed media.  She also started surfing, and her newly impassioned love for the sea began to permeate every facet of her life.  The progression of her work clearly displayed this shift, and the ocean continues to be a source of deep inspiration for her today. Whether figure work, seascapes, or her mixed media shell bottles, all of Joanna’s pieces originate with the idea that the beauty is most grandly displayed in the natural world - that beauty lifts up, heals, refreshes.  Now living in Wilmington, she continues to show and sell pieces locally as well as across the nation.

Tish Vincent Tish Vincent has approached life in a holistic manner for much of her adulthood. An avid runner, she began searching for something to balance out her training regimen and lengthen her tight muscles. This brought her to yoga. As she grew in her practice, she found that her body was better-rounded athletically, but also that her life off the mat had new breath, peace, and balance. She practiced Hatha and Vinyasa yoga for years, then decided to deepen her practice by enrolling in a 200-hour (RYT) yoga teacher training program through Yoga Alliance. She enrolled in and completed Rebecca Niamtu's Yoga for the Planet program. Words cannot express the profound impact this had on her life. Through yoga, we create space, both on and off the mat, better enabling us to flow through life with heightened mental clarity, less stress, and healthier bodies. Tish strives to enable yoga and its benefits to be easily accessible for everyone through her non-judgmental, fun-spirited, and open-hearted class.

Jennifer Dorton Jennifer and her husband, Jay Styron, own and operate Carolina Mariculture Co., a small, family- owned oyster farm located on Cedar Island, NC.  Jennifer and Jay raise oysters using mariculture practices: we buy our oyster seed from a hatchery and raise them to market size in floating cages on our lease in Core Sound.  Carolina Mariculture specializes in growing single oysters, called Cedar Island Selects, as opposed to clusters or doubles.  Cedar Island Select oysters are uniform in size and shape with a deep cup, perfect for serving on the half shell. Due to our farming practices, our oysters can be enjoyed year-round - No more eating them only in months with an “R”.
